I'd like to hear some women's opinions on the following events in Knots landing:

1. Why Anne rejected Benny in 91-92?

2. Why Ellen rejected Michael in 88-89?

These were the only two instances in the show's history when men were rejected by their female friends and did not even get a physical relationship out of it.

Im not a woman but Obviously Anne was desperate and down and out so she basically used Benny Appleman for a roof over her head and was not even slightly attracted to him. With Ellen (the brain) she just fancied a bit with Johnny instead so loser Michael lost out again. He lost out to Sumners secretary Polly as well the other day. But this all serves him right for refusing to give the girl he saved from drowning (Jodie ?) a good seeing to, in a previous season......He is such a loser, Paige used him Linda uses him even his damn cousin Olivia uses him when it suits her.

MUMMY'S BOY - shame on you Karen ! http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

#1: Anne's usual M.O. was to stake out some rich, weak man and move in on him at the right moment, then take advantage of the wealth he had to offer (if not the affection). Her situation with Benny was unlike anything she had encountered. Though he had more than she, it wasn't by much; they had to team up on a few schemes to keep a roof over their heads. She didn't use sex to get something from him because (*surprise!*) he had so little to offer. By the time they got to the sexual tension part, she had come to like him as a friend (another new thing to her) and I don't think she wanted to ruin their friendship by sleeping together. He really made her look human. :-)

As for #2, I think the writers really wanted Michael to be the perennial loser in love. Maybe Karen did raise him to be too nice (hence boring to some), but Ellen wasn't exactly Ms. Congeniality, either. None of Michael's girlfriends was especially charismatic, at least not until after she'd dumped him.

Or maybe the writers were getting those gay vibes from li'l Mikey and they thought he was unconvincing as a leading man-type. ;-)

Karen, upon discovering Michael is dating Linda:
"With all that's happened, what do I care who Michael's dating? He's healthy. He's happy. He's *here*. I don't care if he's dating *Lucrezia Borgia*.
[pause]
"He IS dating Lucrezia Borgia!"

Those are interesting responces. I've always figured that Anne rejected Benny because he was physically unattractive and poor. I don't think she was concerned about maintaining their "great friendship". Does she ever talk to Benny again? Nope.

Michael's rejection, however, is confusing. He was physically in shape and did have potential .He might not have had that Greg and Abby ruthlessness but he was good at writing those computer problems and was far from being a complete loser like Richard Avery. I don't understand what made con artist Johnny much better. Michael may have been a litle annoying but Johhny Rourke was worse.

It's that hard of a problem. Benny was rejected because he was fat, incompetent, and poor. Michael was rejected because he acted very affeminate, wimpy, and child like a lot of the time. A classsic example was when he told Ellen that "on a scale of one to ten, ten being eating all the ice cream he could". What's up with that?? Eating ice cream is the best thing in the world to you ?? are you still five years old ?? Has your dad not gone over that cliff yet ?? Plus, he still lived at home and had a somewhat unusual relationship with his mother for being a 20 year old - you know, that whole deal with Karen about reading one literature book for every computer book. He also acted way too sickly sweet and nice all the time.

It does serve him right though. He should done Kristy Swanson in the previous season. She was hot and all over him. Instead, he dumps her for coming on too strong. This scene alone is proof enough that Michael was probably gay.

Didn't Michael and Paige have a fling when she first arrived?

yes they did ( due to unusual circumstances) and someone needed to buy Michael a copy of the book Nice Guys Don't get laid
