Really gutted to read on Twitter that Grace Dent who I love won't be bothering with Dallas.
Is there still a snobbery for this show?

Oh that's a shame. She's always good value. Would have been fun to read her taking the piss out of it.

Well, there is on this forum so why not elsewhere? My bet is the UK press won't be as receptive to it as the US have been. So it'll be just like old times.

Plus it's on Channel 5 , so that won't help much.
Personally, I love Channel 5 for keeping CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER going and now DALLAS but most influencers don't share my enthusiasm for their creative choices.

I thought Channel Five was perhaps the worse home for Dallas but now I think it's the best. It will be Wednesdays again to pay homage to the original and they are making a big thing out of it. I don't think the other channels would bother so much. Plus I'm glad its not on Sky.
I do wonder how long it will stay in the hands of Channel Five.

UD went to the UK premiere in London with all the press and it got a big applause, although there were giggles apparently at the scene with Sue Ellen and Jordana. Poor Sue Ellen.
I don't get why Grace Dent is so anti it, she is very witty but shes not exactly Mark Kermode.

Which one? The wedding dress scene in the first episode, or another one later on?

They're different animals. Dent's a sublimely funny writer with a TV column; Kermode's a passionate film critic who, by his admission, knows next to nothing about television.

I think it was a scene that was not meant to be funny, so the scene in her office when she tells Jordana how she admires her.
Yes I know that. I guess watching her on Big Brother I kind of went off her a little. I thought she should stick to writing , like Vanessa Feltz should stick to Radio. But my point was if she is happy to sit on Big Brothers big mouth, whatever it's now called, I can't see why she would have disdain for Dallas. I was hoping she would take the piss out of it. Maybe it's so good she can't think of anything funny to say. Unlikely :)

Oh, one of those office scenes with the weird editing where it feels like they've cut out 80% of Sue Ellen's dialogue.

I agree.

Maybe she feels she's been there, done that, or that DALLAS is kind of beyond parody. I remember the man who did that DALLAS theme night on Channel 4 years and years ago telling me that he'd approached Jim Shelley (who originally wrote the Guardian Guide TV/soap column that Charlie Brooker and later Grace Dent inherited) about being involved and Shelley more or less told him to f*** off.

Yes that's interesting you say that, it does kind of feel beyond parody but she could get quite a bit of mileage from some of the later episodes, such as Ken's first episode. :)
It's all a bit middle of the road perhaps.

I think you've hit it on the head, it's definately perceived as middle of the middle of the road. It'll be mostly ignored by the press and it'll get a healthy following, nothing huge but enough to keep it going.
I wonder how long everyone will stay alive? That's the biggest risk to the show, as long as Hagman keeps going the show will keep going.

No doubt Terry Wogan will give it a mention on his sunday lunchtime show on radio 2 :)
