I forgot to mention Parenthood on montyc's thread about what we are watching now and while I was thinking about that it occurred to me that Parenthood is probably the show most like early Knots at the moment.

It might be technically about one family overseen by a benevelent patriarch and matriarch, but within that family there are four separate families: there's the stable couple who have an older daughter whose increasing independence gives them cause for concern and a younger son with Asberger's (rather than Hyperactivity Disorder, or whatever they called it), then there's the reckless one with the fragile relationship (who just happens to be a music producer so there's a kind of Ewing-Ward combo there), the ambitious lawyer with the under-appreciated spouse (albeit with a gender reversal as compared to the Averys), and the recently-returned divorced mother of two (She's not a manipulator like Abby, though).

The parallels aren't perfect but the types are definitely there.

I believe a few seasons are available on Netflix. I will check it out!
