Who does everyone think should do the music for the new show, as most of the old folks who did it are retired or dead? Any opinions? Also, aside from the main theme, what other background themes would you like to see return?

I think they should keep the main theme in the opening credits. Otherwise I think they should do completely new background music as it is after all a new show...

lol IF and this is a big if Bobby & pam would somehow be reunited I wouldn't mind having their love theme played once, although it is so cheesy!

I can't remember if any of the other couples even had love themes, can you?

All the Dallas composers got the show in different ways.

Jerrold Immel is probably the strongest all rounder and has a great variation of instruments. I watched 'Cally On A Hot Tin Roof' today and thought his score was terrific - especially during the scene where J.R. runs over Cally's vegetable garden.

John Parker is a great action composer and the only one to really use cues relating to each character (Love Bobby and Pam's and Cally's themes). John clearly loves the sound of instruments and uses a great variation and some unconventional sounds, such as the sound at the opening of 'The Smiling Cobra' with the scenes in the outer office. Also I love the electric guitar and drums in Conundrum when J.R. walks around the house alone. Another favourite cue comes in Three Three Three as J.R. enters Jessica's room - just a lovely cue.

Richard Lewis Warren is a strong dramatic composer, adding tension to many drama scenes. Take a look on Dallas fanzine for an isolated score clip to see what I mean.

Angela Morley is more deep and minimalist as a composer leaving her episodes a little more undistinguishable as she has no real characteristic trait. Sadly Angela has since passed away but thought I should mention her out of respect.

Lance Rubin - Swan Song is a masterpiece in how to score drama. Nothing else to be said, a brilliant composer !!

All in all, I'd be more than happy to see any of the surviving composers return - I secretly wish John will return as he's my personal favourite but all have strong musical talents and could quite easily score a modern show !

The Dallas theme is one of the best in television, it would almost be a crime not to use it. Maybe another version. Knots Landing had some minimal success in changing their theme song at times- although I hated when they feminized the theme and then had the flowery paint splattered visuals.
