What a great Christmas special, one of my fav in a long time.

Actually despite by recent critisim of the new Doctor I feel he was brillient in this. Perhaps it was the lack of Amy but I thought he was excellent.

BBC-America gave us Americans a present by also airing the Christmas special last night (we used to have to wait several weeks).

I'm still not sold on Eleven, but this special was enjoyable. Yes, less Amy helped, though I've become accustomed to the specials either not having an established companion or at least having a one-off companion. I did laugh at Amy and Rory in their "honeymoon attire", though. What dragged it down, in my opinion, was too much of the "assorted cutesy Christmas adventures" of Eleven and the central character--I'm guessing that is the stuff that will be cut when they edit it down for a regular one-hour w/commercials viewing.

There was an obvious attempt at making it more suitable viewing for very young children--no majorly scary villains or violence like Runaway Bride's giant spider or the murderous robots in Christmas Invasion. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Though I kind of missed the running gag about inexplicable alien devastation occurring in London every Christmas. :)

Well Danny we love giving Americans presents , we just gave you Piers Morgan with compliments so please enjoy !
It had a lot of subtext. Not sure if it was gay subtext like on BLAKES 7 .or KNOTS LANDING.but definite subtext.

Did DANGER MAN have a christmas special starring Barbara Bain?

Loved Katherine Jenkins , I want Sandra Bernhard to appear next christmas. Or Lady Gaga.

I did like this special a lot. I think it confirms for me that it's not the new Doctor that hasn't really been working for me, but it's Amy. Can we have more Amy light episodes please???

Did DANGER MAN have a christmas special starring Barbara Bain? [/QUOTE]
DANGER MAN tended to avoid women especially when they were Honor Blackman, Catherine Woodville (Mrs Patrick Macnee Mk 2), Lois Maxwell, Lisa Gastoni, Sylvia Syms, Adrienne Corri, Georgina Ward, Lisa Gastoni, Virginia Maskell, Nyree Dawn Porter, Jill Medford, Barbara Shelley, Jane Merrow, Wendy Craig, Barbara Shelley, Suzan Farmer, Patricia Donahue, Moira Redmond, Lelia Goldoni, Wanda Ventham, Dawn Addams, Susan Hampshire, Francesca Annis, Jane Merrow, Wendy Craig, Jill Medford, Adrienne Corri, Nicola Pagett, Judy Geeson, Joan Greenwood, Amanda Barrie, Moira Redmond, Suzan Farmer, Patricia Donahue, Francesca Annis, Dawn Addams, Susan Hampshire, Lelia Goldoni, Wanda Ventham or Jane Merrow...not surprising when Wendy Richard smashed up his record collection....
.... although he did allow himself to be kissed by Jane Merrow once, after he had rescued her husband (UNIT Captain Munro from Spearhead In Space) from a foreign embassy after he had enlisted the help of the Rani. DANGER MAN avoided Christmas specials because he was too professional. DANGER MAN avoided women because he was too professional and his avoidance made him extremely attractive to women. If he started a family, there would have been no show because he would have resigned, not being to able to risk his life with dependents.

....and Ian Stuart Black wrote for DANGER MAN and DOCTOR WHO...

Mike I couldn't hear the theme tune because of all the f*****g LIGHTNING sound effects. What is wrong with these people?

It sounded like the same pathetic redux to me, the eccleston Tennant versions 0were so exciting and epic. Please can we have an exciting and melodically interesting version that isn't made on a yamaha organ?

Yes......how could I forget Patricia Driscoll...twice....and Ian Stuart Black wrote The Macra Terror (1967), in which the Doctor ends up in a sinister colony, and introducing the Macra (well, it would) and the Second Doctor gets to extol the joys of anarchy! Bliss! Robert Shearman likes to think that the Doctor's actions in that story caused Ben and Polly to dump the Doctor at the first opportunity...

Ian Stuart Black wrote The Savages (1966), the story in which Steven (Peter Purves) left the show....and Steven had been in the very first Doctor Who Christmas special, The Feast Of Steven (1965) (episode 7 of The Daleks' Master Plan), written by Terry Nation.

I enjoyed this special more than I had anticipated.

I drifted a little with Who this year. I thought the opening episode was fantastic but then it fell into the hit and miss category. I couldn't work out what was going wrong. I think Matt is a great actor and makes a great Doctor, I just think Tennant played the part so well I doubt anyone could have replaced him. I convinced myself that Smith has that star quality and blanking out my true dislike for the show. This is the second story I think Amy has had a small part and that has played a big part in my enjoyment.

It's not about Karen Gillan's acting, but more her character that I haven't bonded with. The pairing just doesn't work for me and Rory only adds fuel to the whole not working idea.

Will Amy eventually win me over? I'm not too sure about that, although I'm still optimistic with Who and looking forward to the new season.

Doctor Who is a Science fiction drama and the latest episode ‘A Christmas Carol’ will feature the Christmas festival in an amazing manner.

Thanks but I'm not sure if I believe this, do you have a link please

Did DANGER MAN have a christmas special starring Barbara Bain?
The Avengers had a Christmas episode with Diana Rigg, who was beaten at the Emmy awards twice by Barbara Bain. Mervyn Johns was in it. He later came out of retirement to do The New Avengers episode, Medium Rare [written by former Doctor Who script editor, Dennis Spooner], a story that [like Too Many Christmas Trees] also used the concept of telepathy. Robert James was in it and he was Lesterson, the man who reactivated the Daleks in Patrick Troughton's debut story, The Power Of The Daleks...and got exterminated. He reappeared with the Fourth Doctor and Sarah in The Masque Of Mandragora, a story that had location footage shot at Portmeirion, where location footage for The Prisoner and the early episodes of Danger Man, both starring Patrick McGoohan...and of course, Ron Grainer composed the theme music for The Prisoner and Doctor Who.

Edwin Richfield was in it. In Doctor Who, he played Captain Hart in The Sea Devils and Mestor in The Twin Dilemma. Both Johns and Richfield (Richfield did six guest spots on The Avengers). It was written by Tony Williamson, who wrote one of the finest episodes of Danger Man...with Edwin Richfield, Jon Rollason (who filled in for the departed Ian Hendry's Dr David Keel, playing Dr Martin King on The Avengers for 3 episodes) & Lisa Daniely (who worked with Anneke Wills on ITC's Strange Report, starring Anthony Quayle), who would later get to kiss the Second Doctor in his penultimate regular story . It had to happen. It was only a matter of time...but then it usually is.... and Williamson (the most imaginative writer on Randall and Hopkirk Deceased [on which Nicholas Courtney and Roger Delgado first met...before becoming the Brigadier and The Master], Department S, The Champions and Jason King [on which Nicholas Courtney, Roger Delgado and Patrick Troughton guested]) also script edited Adam Adamant Lives!, brought to you by Sydney Newman (who also created B]The Avengers[/B]) and Verity Lambert. Patrick Troughton guested on that just before starting on Doctor Who.

The Avengers had previously had a New Year's episode with Leonard Rossiter, John Junkin, Alexander Davion (John Gregson's co-star on ITC's tough, dramatic Gideon's Way...and guest voice artist on Gerry Anderson's feature film, Thunderbirds Are Go!....Bob Monkhouse was another on that film) & Hartnell/Troughton companion Anneke Wills appeared in Dressed To Kill in a slinky outfit as P*ssy Cat.

I liked the Doctor Who Christmas special. Steven Moffat does seem more imaginative in the way he uses time....

Randall and Hopkirk Deceased [on which Nicholas Courtney and Roger Delgado first met...before becoming the Brigadier and The Master],
Oops! Nicholas Courtney had already filmed his first two stories as Lethbridge-Stewart with Patrick Troughton in 1968 prior to working on Randall and Hopkirk Deceased (also working with Brian Blessed and Veronica Carlson [who was getting horror film lead roles at the time and had guested on The Saint and Department S) in Spring 1969.
...and the stunt arranger on The Avengers with Diana Rigg was Ray Austin (Baron De Vere Austin, Lord of Bradwell), who would direct Barbara Bain on Space:1999 and later refer to her as "Barbara Pain".
