I fear if Larry Hagman doesn't negotiate a deal both sides can be happy with, then they might just start recasting all original characters or maybe killing some off. I believe this would be a HUGE mistake because grabbing the wider audience would fail. And that wider audience is the fans of the original series which actually does, despite some people's cynicism, cover every generation. If they want to make the show without having got originals on board, just develop a whole new fresh story with all new characters. I think it is fair to say we can accept original child characters being recast as adults so thats a non-issue. However, with original adult characters, they can just be left out of the original show, leaving a window of opportunity for them to re-appear even in cameos or if negotiations work at a later stage. I am sure some of the actors of lesser characters would get on board if asked and be there for the amusement of the original show fans.

I agree-at this point, not killing or recasting characters where the actors aren't dead should definitely be priority number one. Why shoot yourself in the foot before you start? It would be best to have as many potential return appearances as possible for down the road.

Don't worry, JR is the only original adult character in danger of being killed off or re-cast if Hagman doesn't wise up and take TNT's offer. From what's been said about the pilot, Bobby has the bigger role now and Patrick is definately on board. My sense is that a Dallas without JR will mean more screen time for a stronger Sue Ellen and that will appeal to Linda and she'll be on board very soon too. They'll probably cast un-knowns as John Ross and Christopher, but I think we'll see visits from other familiars faces like Ray, Cliff, etc. too.
