Love SoDs. It used to be on my ITV region at around 3.30pm Wed-Fri for much of its run, and I used to rush home from school to find out the latest developments. lol
I own the two dvd compilations released by Umbrella Entertainment Australia - The Best of Pat The Rat (25th Anniversary) and Classic Cliffhangers. Both fantastic - with some of my favourite episodes.

Umbrella responded positively to my suggestions for further compilation ideas (something they'd asked for either on the site or on the dvd packaging - I forget which). But maybe things have changed since. There was even talk of releasing the series from the beginning in volumes, but that seems to have fizzled out too. It's a shame.

I'm not a hundred per cent certain of this but I think I might be right in saying that Umbrella no longer owns the rights to Sons & Daughters which is the reason there haven't been any further releases.

That's how they should have done an ABBA musical. SONS AND DAUGHTERS with David and Beryl singing "Knowing Me, Knowing You".

Skilda världar (Worlds apart) was a Swedish soap opera from 1996-2002 about two families in Stockholm and their friends. One rich family and one poor and about Daniel and Sandra who are from the two families and fall in love. Later in the series it is discovered that Daniel and Sandra are twins. The series goes further and further away from their story and goes more towards the hate from all characters against Rebecka who is trying to destroy the relationship between Sandra and Daniel.
"Skilda världar love and laughter, meatballs and happiness"

Oh yes. I just found a more detailed description of Skilda Världar here.

The cast list seems very extensive. I can't wait to see the episode featuring Peter Löfgren as "The boy who drops her ice cream in the sandbox."
Seriously, though. I think I may have to get this dvd when it comes out.

Just bringing this up again. I googled this on DVD and this old thread popped up.
I would love to get all the episodes on DVD

It clearly mustn't have a big enough or loyal enough audience to merit a full DVD release otherwise I'm sure it would have happened by now. :)
The only Australian soap to have been given a full release in both Australia and the UK is Prisoner - the final 140 or so episodes still to be released in the UK will go on sale early next year.

I was thinking about this the other day.
I'm currently enjoying Aussie soap Number 96 on dvd, and although only 96 selected episodes plus the movie have been released on dvd, the N96 sets do benefit from having the episodes released chronologically, rather than a "best of". Even though I've never seen N96 before, after watching nearly 50 consecutive episodes so far (all from the middle of its run), I really feel like I'm getting an understanding of the characters that were around for that particular era.
Sons and Daughters would really benefit from that. It really needs to be released chronologically from the beginning (like Prisoner, and like they've started doing with Neighbours now). But the next best thing would be having a set with 30 or so chronological episodes from a certain era - such as the Dee Morrell story, Pat's exit or Alison's arrival. I think this would be more attractive to people who aren't familiar with the show, as well as the old fans snapping it up. It's not that much of a stretch - the Number 96 dvds are also from Umbrella, who did the 2 S&Ds themed sets.
Sadly, I think Englishboy is quite right. It's not likely to happen now. It's a shame. Even shows like A Country Practice, The Sullivans and The Flying Doctors have had some decent chronological episodes released (I believe every episode of TFD is available in the UK).

SAD will always be the best Oz soap. I would love it to return. Didn't the Young Doctors return? SAD had a very loyal UK audience who now all have kids of their own. It's the poor mans Dynasty. I loved it.
If I will the lottery I will bring it back :D

I recently discovered that actress Mary Ward who played Dee Morrell is still going strong at 97 years young.

No, they considered bringing it back in 2008 but the idea was eventually dropped. They are doing a reimagination of Prisoner however, to be known as Wentworth, which is currently in production.

In that case, I hope you do. It's always been my favourite Australian soap too. Though Number 96 is currently running a very close second. It's like Corrie, S&D, Neighbours and a British '70s sitcom have been put into a blender.

Wow - that's impressive.

And there's also a reimagination of Return To Eden en route. Though they'd have a job to top the original.

The original of RTE is really dated now and can be quite boring but SAD is really great to watch because so much happens in 25 minutes. It makes me laugh, although that was never the intention. It's so annoying that out of all the millions of DVD releases the only two I would ever buy - SAD & Knots are not on DVD.

It's strange how some shows just don't seem to do that well on dvd. At first I was thinking maybe it's something to do with daytime viewers, but then I remembered that both Knots and S&D aired at prime-time in their respective countries of origin.
By the way, I came across this site the other week, and I've found it quite interesting. It has the histories of quite a few Aussie soaps. Here's the S&D section:

I thought the story about why Cornelia Frances got written out was interesting. I didn't know that before. I always thought Barbara had a lousy exit from the show, considering she was a great character and was on it for quite a while. Now I know why.

That is interesting. I never heard that before. I loved Barbara but Gordon teaming up with Beryl was just awful. But I did enjoy Barbara's exit, it was quite inventive.
They could always do a remake of SAD. The concept is a great one but the original was lucky with it's cast. Fiona was brilliant.
