View Full Version : Potholes

We've had snow and ice, and therefore, salt, water, snow plows and bigass trucks with chains on their tires on our roads nonstop since February 5. So I guess it's no surprise that our roads are full of potholes.
But GEEZ! Our potholes are SOOOOO bad....How bad are they?
Our roads have more holes than swiss cheese.
Our potholes are so big that small children could play hide and seek in them and not even get hurt by cars passing overhead.
Our potholes are so long, I think they should leave a few of them for people who have to throw themselves flat on the ground during a lightening storm.
Our potholes are so deep, I heard a team of archeology students from the local university will be doing an excavation before the city fixes them.
Our potholes are causing so much damage to cars that mechanics are setting up little repair stations like lemonade stands alongside the road, to fix everyone's axles after they sink wheel-deep into the road.
Our potholes are so difficult to maneuver around, that I heard that landmine activist groups are going to mobilize in our area.
Add your own hyperboles, fellow Soap Chatters. Potholes SUCK!

I'm sick of them.
As soon as the snow went, our street was one big pothole......as well as one big s**thole.

The councils fixed most of the roads in our area, but they did such a good job....they have ended up just as bad as they were before.

I literally had to slam on the brakes this morning because I turned onto a road that had a bunch of new potholes and at first glance I could not find a way through them. It was a good thing there was no one behind me. I finally found a narrow strip I could drive where the tires were straddling the potholes. And I drive this road every morning. The roads are just getting so torn up, and the road crews can't keep up with the damage!

Yes, the excessively harsh winter has dramatically produced a large number of potholes everywhere.

Our street is always full of potholes.
The council "patch" it up lol
Then one of my neighbours appears in the paper, "pointing" at a pothole, like a qweghead, looking all forlorn.
lol lol
I'm thinking about buying a Moon-buggy, just to get me to work and back.

Watch your step girls, I don't wanna be logging in here the next couple of days only to find we've lost you down one of those holes.

What do we pay rates for if the relevant people can't go out and fix the potholes?

I"m not particularly angry with anyone--it must be insane for them to try to get to every crater in the city, and knowing that the snow plows and salt that people are screaming for as quick as possible are contributing to the problem--that must be awfully frustrating. And the holes that I was referring to in post #5 above have been filled now, so I'm not whining about PEOPLE. I'm just whining because I have the right to in the Rant Room :)

Well here it's a totally different story. We obviously haven't had the volume of snow that you have, but what we did have caused unnecessary chaos.
The people who were supposed to grit the roads, are the same people who are supposed to repair the roads.
Well the roads didn't get "gritted" because they apparently ran out of grit before they even started......and now they arn't getting repaired either. They are just being botched up with tarmac, which isn't lasting very long.

Yes, I understand that must be really annoying. Where do you live? in the UK?

I thought so just because you spoke about putting "grit" on the roads. In northern US, that word refers to dirt, as in "after working in the garden I feel gritty" and in southern US, "grits" refers to a cooked cereal. So if you're speaking of "grit" on the roads, you must be from the UK. Check out my awesome powers of deduction, LOL.
For the most part, folks here in the northern US know how to deal with snow and potholes in a reasonably prompt way. But we can still moan though, because it's still awful to be rushing to work in the pre-dawn hours and suddenly you're dodging street craters (before I've even had my coffee, egad!)

LOL You should come and live here for a while. Rain, heat snow....we are never prepared for any of them, yet we KNOW what's coming.
It's crazy!......but then, i suppose if it wasn't the weather we were moaning at......we would be sure to find something else, we usually do ;) lol

Oh goodness yes, the Dallas area is also having problems with potholes everywhere, thanks to a cold and snowy winter.
Actually came up on one last Wed, tried to avoid it, but hit it anyway, blowing a small hole in the side of my front, right tire. Tire was over 3 years old, so at least it wasn't a new one !!!

That's probably going to be my next moan lol lol

Let it fly, Joanna, you're in the place for it!
Here is my snow moan for the day--not only are the roads bad, but the sidewalks still are too, because not everyone has shoveled yet. We got 2 feet of snow on February 6, and many more inches since then and it's still not all gone, and not everyone has had the decency to clear off their sidewalks. As a result, last week graysondad twisted his ankle badly walking to work and tore ligaments. The poor fellow has a big brace on his ankle and needs to go in for physical therapy.
