I have several questions about videos and such, so I thought I'd put them all here and see if I can get some help.
First of all I have some stuff on DVD that I would like to upload to my YouTube, but I need a program (freeware please, if possible) to convert the DVD files into MPEG and/or AVI files. What do you all use? Please recommend something fairly easy that I can use to convert these files.
Second, I have tried several of the download from Youtube type programs to save some of my favorties on my computer, but so far I have had no luck. Again, can someone recommend something I can use to do this.
If I can figure out how to download from YouTube and DailyMotion, I will be able to work on my own video without having to beg for so many clips. I have a couple of video ideas in mind and have been playing with MovieMaker some, but I must admit it is a challenge.
Thanks for the help. Everyone here has been so sweet since I joined and I really look forward to my time here.

I use this site to download from YouTube sometimes: www.vixy.net It requires a bit of patience, though, and the files also come out as AVI so they have to be converted. I use Movie Maker for my videos as well--it can definitely be a challenge to use, but I'm almost always happy with the results. Good luck!

If you would like to download videos from YouTube, download the program Realplayer from HERE (http://www.real.com). Its totally free, and it comes with a little addon that can be used to download videos from most websites as long as its allowed.
I would also recommend Movie Maker as I used it for alot of my earlier video projects.

Good luck with making your own videos Janet. :hello:
Patience is required as making a video takes hours! The quickest I've ever made one is four hours.
To capture videoclips from DVD or VHS tapes I use a Pinnacle PCTV card. It costed me about 50 dollars to buy but it can be recommended as it works really well. :)
When making my videos I use Ulead Video Studios, which is a bit more advanced than moviemaker but really easier to work with in my opinion. Although movie maker is better for capturing clips from mini-dv cams. :)
As for ripping clips from youtube I have no idea how it's done. if you'd want to use some of my clips in your videos you may as long as you'll give me credits for it and don't take parts that I have edited in layers...
Have fun making videos!
Take care,
Best wishes:
Karin.

Yes as Karin explained you need a video capture card. You can get these quite cheaply, although if its a dvd you can in some cases just plug the dvd directly into your pc.
You can then capture the video as an AVI using something like Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere. Edit it and then output it as a windows media file or an MPEG. Then upload to Youtube. Youtube state the best spec for upload on their site.
