Theory - is Gene god or the devil?

Obviously we all love Gene Hunt. But as i was watching last night, its like he has some kind of biblical powers :)

So you go into a coma and meet Gene Hunt.

Early in Life On Mars, I pondered of he was a symbolic father-figure to Sam
... and he could be a similar psychological symbol to Alex...

The second series will touch on this, but think it's best he is never defined, we never get to know

Yes I dont want to find out. But he reminds me of sone kind of Angel. When he was comforting Alex last night there was a tender Angel like moment. Its like on the cusp of good and evil.

Its so fab. I always liked gene but after yesterdays episode I love him :D

Gene does seem to be a kind of "enlightening mechanism" for whoever
he has under the CID wing, aiding their transition "back home" and out of limbo...

Sam hated Gene at first: the brutality, rule-breaking, un-pc behaviour
... but grew to appreciate the methods got results, and Gene was truly a good guy.
(Sam was the honest deputy to the corrupt sheriff)

Alex knew the Gene Genie reputation through Sam's notes: slightly intimidated beneath
her aggressive front, she sees a humanity through Gene's sexism and brute force
... and the protective side to him is attracting her (Alex mixed feelings of father/lover figure)

In both cases, Gene's presence has expanded both cops, making them realise
things about their situation, their opinions, and ultimately themselves

... and he has nice boots :D

There is something quite sexy about him. He's a no nonsense, hard, rugged kinda guy but with a sensitive side, maybe that's it! :peace:

Philip Glenister has said in interviews, he reckons the Gene appeal
as told to him by ladies who would like a ride in the Cortina / Quattro
... is that he is very TRUE to who he is - we are all self-conscious
nowadays, caring too much what others think of us - Gene genuinely
has no self-awareness other than telling it exactly as it is

... no metro-sexual male the Gene Genie, no plucked plastic lady-haired Barrowman,
Gene is the antithesis of anything fake, the REAL deal, whether he's actually real or not !! :D

I think Ashes to Ashes will have some sort of twist to it... I know Life on Mars ended with him coming out of a coma then realising his life in 2007 wasn't for him and killing himself.

But yeah, I think Gene does have some sort of power. I wouldn't say he's god or the devil. Maybe some sort of angel or spirit guide they meet when they're between life and death. It could be like a sort of world in between the two.

Or it could be that if Alex is dead or does die... she could stay there.
