Asterisk or otherwise, Barry Bonds broke the 30+ yr record held by Hank Aaron last night...

and one lucky (and bloody) NY Mets fan from Queens (who on a whim scalped tkts that day and went to the game while on vacation) caught it. The ball could fetch upwards of 500k - $1mil depending on speculations over Bonds' "possible" steroid use.

Carlos you sound angry over it.
No way you could have caught it unless you were there.
regardless the record is incredible
give the devil his due.

sound angry over the guy who caught the ball?
not even a little. i was actually happy that a guy from new york city, my hometown, caught it.
i'm not overjoyed about the record being broken (by someone who's likely used steroids to do it), but i'm also certainly not angry about it. i must not be expressing myself clearly as i haven't had my tea yet. no anger here, whatsoever. i'm actually in a great mood - the yanks are 1/2 game out of the wild card, playing the best baseball in MLB since the all star break, and just 5 games behind the sawx. :wiggle:

Give it an asterik.
Yes steroids were legal in MLB until a few years ago but it is a moral and ethical issue. Any HR's Barry hit since the ban should be wiped from the books.

People that want to give asteriks are jealous morons.
You can't unring a bell that is rung.
You can put a god damn asterik around ANY record in modern baseball..
He broke the record...Playing hurt...
He gets all the glory.
I mean for chrissakes we are supposed to only allow choir boys in the record books??
Get real for once in your life.

So you think it is OK to cheat to get in the record books?
Flanagan

Yeah..if he cheated.
He didn't cheat though.
He played within the rules..
and broke the record fair and square.

the reality is it wasn't an awe inspiring moment. when baseball fans watch great records broken, even if you're not a fan of the player or the team, when you witness an unbelievable record like this was, you feel it to your bones - usually. i don't think there's anyone that felt this through their bones. i certainly didn't.
to me that's telling.
just sort of a feeling of "oh, ok, he did it".

Steroids may not have been against baseball rules but they were against the law in the United States.
Kidnapping is also against the Law in the United States, does baseball really need to add that to the rule book to stop players from kidnapping family members of players and getting them to play poorly.
Just a hypothetical, if its federally banned I think its a given that its wrong for a baseball player to use them.
That said, congrats to Barry, Happy Asterik Day Buddy.
And I love the story of the Mets fan, just passing through on his way to australia, decided to catch a game before the flight and beat all those San Franers to the ball, with a ripped shirt and bloody neck.
Hell Yeah!
Heard a funny sentiment on the radio, the DJ said that is the guy that buys the one lottery ticket and wins. And the only reason he bought the ticket is because he filled up his tank and it cost 39 dollars and he had two twenties and decided to spend the last dollar on the lotto.
And the poor person who bought 200 tickets just before him doesnt win.
That is one lucky guy!

Yes Mrs Jock it does,,,,

It bugs me that Barry took steroids.
It bugs me that Kirby Puckett was a rapist.
It bugs me that Mickey Mantle was a drunk...
Like I said. We can't put an asterisk because the guy isn't a choir boy.
And besides Mrs.Jock. I thought you were for the legalizing of drugs..
Caught in the contradiction game again aren't you??
Don't you ever stop stepping in it?

My question was pointed at McGarrett. And if it did bother you you would be calling for an asterick.

ok, sorry. you did say: "doesn't it bother any of you" and so i obviously thought you had either not read my posts or had misread them as there are only 2 or 3 posters on this thread and only 1 was more clearly supportive than the other 2. jeesh, exhausted already. :peace:
i did say "*asterisk or not". i said it bc they're not likely to put it however much many of us want it. :wiggle:

Every record should have an asterisk if you give one to Bonds.
I can make a case for every record broken in the modern history of the game.
Even Hank Aaron..
Try me!!
