I'm going to order both "The Colbys" seasons on dvd from a friend I've made on the forum and just had to say that I can't wait to see the show again!!! I'm really looking forward to re watching the show all over again. How exciting.
The last time I saw any episodes was from UKTV Gold atleast ten years ago now and its great to get the opportunity to see the series again on dvd as the show is so rare and seldom re-ran.
As I was so young the first time around, it will be interesting to watch again and see if I see any of the characters and storylines in a different perspective. I always remember The Colbys as being somewhat outrageous and camp, even more so than Dynasty and I'm looking foward to seeing if I find it as enjoyable today as I did then... Anyways, I shall have to let you know more of what I think once I see it again if thats okay with you guys on the forum.

Have fun! I've always enjoyed The Colbys more than Dynasty. My only disappointment was that it wasn't Hollywood enough, but still very entertaining.

I have to disagree here. Excluding the UFO, The Colbys was a bit more grounded with more realistic characters and stories than Dynasty. It was even better than Dynasty at the time, and even critics were kind to it by the second season.

I certainly remember it as being better than Dynasty. I always thought it was alot more unbelievable and fantastical though, still it will be interesting to see what I feel about the show today.
I'm surprised you didn't find it "Hollywood" enough for you. I thought it had such a star-studded Hollywood cast. I remember being astounded it could attract such big names as Chuck Heston, Katharine Ross, Ricarldo Montalban and Barbara Stanwyck...

To me, "The Colbys" seems more exotic than "Dynasty" (thanks to Miss Stephanie Beacham). Can't wait to start that after "Dynasty".

No, what I mean is the setting is Los Angeles. As I said before it would have been more fun had Miles owned a movie stuido and Sammy Jo tried to get into movies. I still liked Dominque as Ms. Record Executive, but I think Sammy Jo trying to break into movies would have been a better crossover.
Still would have liked Jeff staying on The Colbys and establishing himself, and Fallon retuning to Dynasty to rediscover herself. And their stories crossing over until they are wed and then Fallon makes the jump.
Dominique and Garrett as the crossover couple just didn't do it for me.

Yes Benny indeed. Stephanie does have an exotic charm about her. Oh I don't know perhaps Im viewing back through rose tinted glasses but the whole Colby clan certainly seemed liked more FUN that the Carringtons!

I so hope Paramount eventually releases THE COLBYS. Personally, I prefer it to DYNASTY, even with only two seasons.

It is kind of a perfect 'mini series' on it's own.

I'm hoping that when it comes to season 6 of Dynasty being released (based on the assumption and hope that season 2 sells well and ditto for seasons 3-5) Paramount release season 1 of The Colbys at the same time. Who does have the DVD distribution rights to The Colbys?

I would assume Paramount has the same rights to THE COLBYS has it does to DYNASTY, but I'm not for sure.

That would have been interesting. The Colbys just came across aas very staid. I enjoyed quite a lot of it compared to Dynasty at the time but it didn't realise its potential. Great stars, Hollywood setting, good production values, some interesting conflicts, -- but it never really got off the ground.
I liked the Conny/Sable rivalry but nothing really came of it. Dominique and Garrett may as well have been on another show. It was just clunked down with really odd isolated plots like Monica and the blind man and Bliss the part-time eco-warrior.
One scene that always sticks in my mind is Fallon and Sable arguing over the colour of her wedding dress. I don't know why but it always made me laugh. Says a lot about the series that it's my abiding memory.
