Negotiations at the mansion
The other week Blake had asked Krystle to be his date at a dinner party at the Randolph’s. By this time, Blake had taken Krystle out for dinners, theatres, late suppers after working overtime at the office. As we all know Blake Carrington was a man who knew what he wanted and from the very first moment he saw Krystle Grant walking into that European restaurant with her friends eight months earlier he knew she was the one. As the head secretary and personal assistant, Krystle was aware of the fact that her handsome looking boss (and fiancé since a few weeks) sometimes needed a date at very special business dinners and business trips. Moreover, in fact, she did not mind being there for him at all and she longed for him to come home to her as soon as possible when she had to stay behind at the office. Therefore, when he asked her this time she was not surprised. He had even suggested that she would spend the weekend with him at his house instead of being alone in her two-room apartment - just as a relaxing weekend after a few weeks hard work with the new oil leases in the Middle East.
It was quite natural to follow Blake home to the big house after the dinner party that evening. She had already left her overnight bag when she and Blake got dressed for the party. She had agreed to go there straight after work instead of letting him pick her up in his limousine by her apartment as usually.
Blake had given the staff the evening off and the two of them were all alone. Krystle reflected over how quiet it was as they went to the library to have a drink and talk about the evening and any eventually plans for tomorrow. She had been to the house before and she knew how comfortable the deep soft leather chairs was in front of the fireplace. Krystle took her shoes off and made herself easy; Blake untied his bow tie and poured her some brandy.
“It was a nice party, wasn’t it? I never thought I laugh so much at that story Edward told me. I still keep on smiling when I am thinking about it. I believe you enjoyed it too. I could see that special look in your eyes as far as I could tell.” He said as he offered her the brandy glass.
“Yes, I had a great time too. For once, it was a very relaxed party – no business talk, no business games to play.”
She had pulled her feet up and she was looking astonishing in the pale blue embroidered moiré dress with its plunging neckline Blake had insisted her to wear. The colour was picking up the blue shades in her eyes and they were sparkling in the warm light of the fire. The dress’ cut had made his imagination wander away during the evening and he was eager to go back home and not stay too long at the party. ”Nothing could match those eyes - not even the perfect diamonds in the world Blake thought for himself. I’m so lucky to have her here with me tonight,” he thought.
“What do you want to do tomorrow? Shall we take a trip up to the cabin for a picnic or do you want to go for a horseback ride instead.”
“I think I just want to relax, maybe go for a long walk down by the lake and talk, a pic-nic maybe. Nothing fancy, you have already spoiled me more than enough. I am only your secretary you know,” she answered him in a melodic voice.
“…not just any secretary - you are my fiancée and future Mrs. Carrington , Blake added.”
His warm brown eyes looked deeply into hers and the firelight was spreading golden highlights in his dark grey stained hair. The tension was getting thicker between them and Krystle smiled at him, she could not help that warm feeling growing inside of her whenever he turned on his charm or was near her. She admitted to herself he was more than handsome and she loved him. Staring into the fire, she realized it was getting late and she was tired after working all day and after the cheerful but tiresome party. She had already finished her drink and was just about to get up from the chair when Blake leaned forward to take her empty glass asking if she wanted a refill and when she lifted her head up to answer him their lips touched in a soft kiss. He looked at her with innocent eyes like a little boy not knowing if he had done something good or bad.
She met his eyes and then he kissed her again and this time it was filled with warmth and tenderness. Neither of them needed to utter a word; there was a mutual understanding between them and they walked hand in hand upstairs to the master bedroom. Krystle was giving in to his damned charm as usual and she had to admit to herself she did not mind at all. When they entered the room, a fragrance of red roses filled the air and candles were lit all over the place. A thick fur rug was placed in front of the fireplace and a silver bucket with champagne on ice sitting beside it. Blake turned to her and softly kissed her sweet lips and the pulsing vein on her neck embracing and quietly pulling her down with him on the soft rug. After a few moments, he pulled himself away to look at the beautiful woman next to him.
“How did you manage all this…? “ Krystle started to ask, but Blake softly put a finger on her lips to prevent her from talking.
“We have been living separate for some time now Miss Grant. I am getting to know you quite well by now and I think you do know me too. If I want something, I reach for it and I do not stop until I got it. Have you realized it has been more than eight months since you walked into that restaurant with your friends? At the very first moment, I saw you I knew I wanted you - not just as my secretary but also as my wife to be. You got me hooked from the very beginning even if you did not realize it at first. I love you Krystle, so very much, and I arranged this with the hope you would change your mind and move in with me as soon as possible. I do not want to leave you by your doorstep every evening after work anymore. You belong here with me as my fiancée and the new mistress of the house.”
Blake reached for a black leather box and opened it. Krystle found herself staring at a diamond set ruby necklace sparkling like stars on the midnight blue velvet. The heart shaped rubies had the same colour as the colour of Blake’s love - deep crimson red. Chills were running down her spine and filled her with an excitement and fear at the same time. She did not know what to say – she was stunned as Blake took the heavy necklace from the box and placed it around her delicate neck.
“Blake, I, I do not know what to say. I cannot decide something like this overwhelmed by your charm and…” Blake interrupted her.
“You only have to say one word Krystle, one word please…”
Krystle sat in silence staring at him. “What did this mean to her future? Should she stop working at Denver Carrington Co. and live here with Blake? How did wealthy oil tycoons’ fiancées spend their days if they didn’t have a job to go to?” A thousand questions went round in her head for a time that seemed like an eternity when Blake, lifting her cheek up and kissing her softly, interrupted her.
“My darling Krystle, I love you from the bottom of my heart and with all of my soul, please say you will move in with me.”
She looked from Blake into the flickering fire and back again, lightly touching the necklace with her fingertips, and in a few seconds she had made up her mind. Then she smiled at him and with sparkling eyes she answered him as she placed her soft hand on his cheek.
“Well, since you know I can’t resist your bribes and charms, I guess I have to come up with a clever answer in proportion to this one. Yes Blake, I will move in with you on the conditions we go for a test period at first and I will keep my condo until we are married. Ok?” Krystle said firing off a wry smile towards Blake.
“What? You cannot be serious! You belong here with me! Why do you need to keep the condo if you are living here?” puzzled Blake blurted out his question.
“Well I have my reasons, for example my place is closer to the office than the mansion is. Couldn’t you figure that out for yourself? I thought you were a clever man,” she said and placed a teasing kiss on his lips.
“Oh, my naughty darling, you are one heck of a tough negotiator and I will only agree on your terms because I love you so much and you make me so happy”, said Blake and kissed her passionately as he gently pushed her down on the rug. “Anything you say darling – though the conditions are the worse I have ever had to put up with in a deal and this is not the first one, if you know what I mean.”
Smiling he then opened the Dom Perignon -65 carefully and only a thin wisp of smoke left the bottleneck. He poured their fluted glasses and proposed a toast to a long life together filled with happiness and love, celebrating the next level in their relationship. For once Krystle felt she had the joker in her hand and relaxed she indulged herself to Blake’s teasing kisses that made her quiver and yearn for his powerful exciting body. The night was still young and none of the were tired anymore as they started exploring each others bodies and making love in front of the flickering warm fire. Not until they exhaustedly went for the cosy bed in the small hours of the morning and curled up they drifted into sleep.
The following week Krystle packed her bags and moved in with Blake at the Carrington Mansion. The only things she brought were her clothes and a few personal belongings she could not do without. A few books and some precious memories from her childhood in Dayton. Everything else was left behind in the condo until later. After talking things over Blake finally had gave in keeping the condo for a while until they were to be married. Krystle insisted on a try-out period at the mansion and she needed her place as back up in case things did not turn out the way they were meant to. Blake had picked her up in the limo and as Michael drove them home along the winding road leading to the mansion they sat in silence. Krystle was cuddled up against Blake’s chest with his arm around her, both feeling a tingling excitement about the next step in their relationship. Krystle always felt safe in her fiancé’s embrace feeling the warmth of his body and his special masculine fragrance, she needed that as she was on her way to enter her new home. Michael pulled up in front of the main entrance and went out to open the door. They stepped out of the car and was met by the Major Domo, Joseph Anders who had opened the heavy massive oak door to greet them as Blake escorted Krystle into her news home.
“Mr. Carrington, everything has been set in orders as you requested, sir. Welcome Miss Grant to the Carrington residence”, he said with a formal, dull voice. “Gerard will take your bags upstairs ma’am. I hope you will enjoy your stay”, he said as if she was only to stay for the weekend.
“Thank you Joseph”, Krystle replied politely with a little smile. She kept her puzzled thoughts to her self. “What did he mean by “…enjoy your stay…” ”Wasn’t he informed she was there to stay for good?” She was not given any time to cogitate about it. Blake took her by her arm and led her upstairs to the master bedroom.
“Welcome home darling,” Blake said with an affectionate voice and opened the door for her and the delicate fragrance of red roses and white angelically magnolias hit her. The room was filled with flowers and as she turned around to Blake, he whispered in her ear; “Some love sick fool called Edwards send them and insisted on putting them in here. He did not take no for an answer so I had to go along with it. We can clear it out at once if you like to – I rather keep you to myself you know and not share you with anyone else. By the way, I don’t think flowers are enough to make you feel at home – so I bought you this.”
Then he took her over to the dressing room and opened the walk-in-closet. The shelves were filled with brand new designer clothes, dresses, gowns, casual wears, suits, anything a woman in the higher society might need to make an easy living as possible was there on hangers. Krystle went over and touched the garments with her hands, feeling the luxurious silky fabrics run through her fingers, checking the labels and discovered they were the right size and the colours were a perfect match for her skin and eyes.
“How did you…when did you manage all this?” she asked Blake with an astonished voice. “And it is the right size too. It must have cost you a fortune, it’s too much…” Krystle’s voice cracked and faded as she turned to Blake with tears of joy in her eyes.
“Now what is this – tears? I thought you would be happy?” Blake looked at her with his charming puppy eyes. “My dear Krystle, this is the least I can do for you. I want you to wear something new for me every day, and make me proud to be your future spouse. As my fiancée, you are a reflecting mirror of me and I want the image to be complete. How my business acquaintances see you dressed, wearing jewelleries, how my servants respect me – everything is a part of how they measure and weigh my value as an associate and it is of great importance to me.” “Besides, I love to spoil you as well, don’t you know that? This is just a spit in the ocean to me.”
“Blake, I am not sad, I am just a bit overwhelmed right now. I never thought this adjustment would be so obvious and so soon. I thought I was handling it until now. I am sorry Blake; I just can’t help myself…” Krystle said and threw herself, sobbing, in his arms seeking the security he always provided for her.
“I am sorry if I have rushed you – I didn’t mean to. You see darling, at first I thought I would take it slow but on the other hand you need to get used to this as soon as possible and I promise you I will stand by your side every step of the way. It was inevitable.”
He pulled his fingers through her blond silky strands of hair, comforting her by just being there for her. Then he lifted her cheek up and kissed her wet eyes and moist chin, wiped her tears away with his embroidered blue hanky. Then he caressed her sweet firm lips with his own and then kissed her passionately continuing his path down her neck to the tender place inside her collarbone making her quiver of sensual pleasure.
“I think I should leave you know to unpack your things alone, this is your home now and you are the new mistress of this house. In plain words – your commands are the servant’s laws.
“No, please stay with me Blake, keep me company for a while. You don’t have any urgent matters to take care of – do you?”
“No, I don’t.”
Krystle left his embrace and went over to a big box containing her most precious belongings. She opened it and pulled out a worn out photo album. A picture of her and her sister fell out and landed on the floor. Blake bends down to pick it up. It pictured Krystle and her older sister Iris at their farm together with their horse ‘Freddie’. Krystle wore a ballerina skirt sitting on Freddie and Iris was standing beside her.
“Who are those two cuties?” asked Blake as he gave her the photo back.
“Oh, that one…” Krystle giggled. “It’s I and my big sister Iris. When we were small, we dreamed of being prima ballerinas at the circus, travelling all over the world, wearing fancy clothes and becoming famous. We even practised a number on our working horse, like standing on his back while he was walking and some other tricks. I made mom make me a pink ballerina skirt out of an old lace curtain. I must have been about five or something…and I was in heaven. I have been told I never talked about anything else during that summer.”
“I had no idea I was engaged to a circus princess! I may not let you tour with the circus but I promise you this: We will travel the world together, you will wear all the fancy clothes, and jewelleries I can buy for you and you will be my own princess! So in a way your dream will come true…” Blake gave her a seductive smile and reached for her to steal another kiss.
Krystle returned his kiss but managed to pull herself away from him, though she would have preferred to indulge herself to Blake’s seductive mood.
“In this pace it will take forever to unpack and move in, you don’t want that do you?”
“No, I don’t … I should probably leave you alone anyway, I’ll be downstairs in the study doing some paperwork. Ok?” He kissed her pert nose and left her alone with her things.
She turned her attention to her belongings and started unpacking, placing photos on the mantelpiece, books in the shelves… A feeling of sentimentality hit her and she sat down on the bed reflecting over the words Blake said only a few minutes ago “…you will be my own princess! So in a way your dream will come true…” When she moved to Denver a year ago, she could not in her wildest dreams have imagined all this, finding a man to love – yes – but not one of the wealthiest and most attractive bachelors in the state. She sighed at what was lying ahead of her, thinking of how to handle her new civil status and how to fit in this new environment. Blake was there for her nevertheless she had her doubts. How was his children going to react, how was she going to handle the servants? When she was done unpacking, she went looking for Blake. She found him deep in his papers in the study and did not notice her come in until she was standing beside him.
“Darling, are you done unpacking?” Blake asked smiling at her.
“Yes, I am. I guess it will take some time before I get used to this new feeling. I mean just knowing the fact I am staying here tonight, waking up with you tomorrow, for the rest of the week… and for the rest of my life
“It feels so good to finally have you here with me where you belong.” Blake wrapped his arms around her and placed a tender kiss on her cheek. “Let’s go for a walk in the garden.”
A few weeks later Krystle had settled in quite well and things were running smoothly at the office as well. Blake stole kisses from her whenever he could at work and acted like a proud rooster around her. The autumn passed by and soon, all the trees had dropped their multi coloured leafs.
To be continued.....
