View Full Version : Would you have accepted Dack Rambo as Bobby ?
Initially, Dack Rambo was considered as a replacement for Partick Duffy as Bobby, when Duffy announced he was leaving. As far as I know, the producers changed their minds after the Donna Reed fiasco, and Dack became Jack, the long lost cousin.
Do you think Dack could have pulled it off as Bobby ?

No, No Never!
When you have played a character for so long and are much loved, I would never accept anyone else in the role of a dallas star who was original from the start.
Doesnt work, Miss Ellie proved that!
No, There's only one Bobby Ewing and that was PD.

No! PD was Bobby and no one else could be Bobby IMO.
I'm not certain which option would have been easier to swallow, Dack as Bobby or the ridiculous dream explanation to bring Patrick Duffy back !

I'd think with him as Bobby, Pam would've ran the car into the truck a lot quicker. That's just a bad idea all around. :(

No, you cannot successfully recast in primetime.

I voted no of course.
No, you cannot successfully recast in primetime.
Nine times out of ten, recasting is a very bad idea. But there are exceptions. Recasting Ted Shackelford and Mary Crosby as Gary and Kristin was brilliant. Those recasts definitly worked, especially Kristin's. I actually liked the first Gary, but Ted's Gary was more versatile. As for Kristin, Coleen Camp was good but I did'nt think she could tap into the character of Kristin like Mary did. Mary's Kristin was absolutely spectacular and mesmerizing. I fell in love with Kristin. However, recasting Bobby would be a very stupid move because Bobby was perfectly casted.

NO ONE could replace Patrick as Bobby!

I agree with Day Dreamer -- there are the exceptions to recasts that can work. There's a number of examples ranging from DALLAS to The OC. But it's a major risk. Recasting such a beloved character as Bobby would not have set well with the audience, no questions asked.

I don't accept that there was a Donna Reed fiasco, she was a great actress who brought a lot to the part of Miss Ellie. If there was a fiasco is was in the was she was sacked and replaced by the original actress.

Yes, absolutely. Dack Rambo was a fine actor and as long as he was given a chance to establish himself in the role I would have accepted the recast. Look, if you can accept wiping out a complete series as a dream you can accept just about anything!

No way, Dack Rambo was a fine actor in his own right but even he was savvy enough to admit that casting him as Bobby would have been wrong.

I remember at the time there was an actor named James Read. who was in he mini series North and South. I thought he would have made a good replacement for Patrick Duffy. He was a tall strong good looking man, and he would have made an excellent "Bobby Ewing"

I think the same. But if PD wouldn`t have played Bobby I think Dack would have been a great second choice.
@JR_diggs: I like James Read so much. He is so cute. Much more handsome and cute like PD ever was.

I liked Dack Rambo but he wouldnt have been accepted as Bobby. Like Barbara he was too loved and long in the role for it to have worked.
But he was good as Jack and they should have let him stay around for longer
