Eileen Davidson Out in the New Year
Posted Thursday, November 16, 2006 8:54:17 PM

It is a decision that will surely have many fans of The Young and the Restless up in arms. However, fans of a rival soap may be sitting quietly with their fingers crossed. In a surprising casting decision, Y&R execs have decided to fire Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott).

As the recent months have gone by, Davidson's Ashley has been more of a background character, and the actress has expressed some of her frustration with her lack of air time in various interviews.

Now, there is word that Days of our Lives might be interested in having at least one of Davidson's former alter egos return to the fold. Which character is obviously still very much up in the air.

A CBS spokesperson would not comment on Davidson's firing; some fans are already speculating about Ashley's possible role in the whodunit death of Carmen Mesta.

Davidson will continue to air through January 11th, 2007.

Irizarry Returns to CBS -- But Joins Y&R

Irizarry later broke his silence on his All My Children exit, stating that he was "deeply saddened" to have been fired by the ABC soap. The actor indicated that he wanted to wait until after he had finished taping his final scenes before making comment on his release.

Now Irizarry is breaking his silence again - but this time about his new Y&R gig.

"I've been sitting on this information for over a week now," Irizarry said in a statement. "[B]ut I was expressly given instructions from the show's PR department not to make any formal announcements until they deemed the timing to be right."

Irizarry will tackle the role of David Chow, a character who is connected to the recently-murdered Carmen Mesta. Irizarry tapes his first scenes for The Young and the Restless on November 21st. He is expected to first air on January 9th, 2007.

Oooh I wonder which alter ego could possibly be returning. That mean mean mean Kristen or bucktoothed Susan or Sister Mary Moira and I forgret the other two. That was a storyline I found mildly entertaining.

I would much prefer she stay on Y&R, even if the show is not so good right now (CSM should come into this thread to attack my poor tastes right about now lol).

As for Vincent returning to Y&R, I've only seen him on AMC, and I didn't particularly care for him there (him as in the actor, not the character).

I"m finding the show really good...the whole brad and his mother thing and the art storyline is crappy though

I can remember Vincent Irizarry on Santa Barbara. He played a Dr on there too.

I am disappointed that Elieen is leaving Y&R...I thought the writers were going to give her a story with Jill and the DA. However, it looks like that story is going to Gloria....I hope Ashley is not Carmen's murderer because that would make no sense! What motive would she have???

Could the firing of Eileen be a way of making it known that no one is safe on the "new" Y&R????

I really doubt that Aaron. Ashley hasn't been used properly for years and as Davidson said in her TVGUIDE.com interview, the role was either going to be revamped or written off. It's unfortunate, but I predict a Abbott family revamp with the next year.

Latham seems very open to suggestions, she collaborates with the actors on all the storylines. For example, Jeanne Cooper had a very large part in the upcoming story for Jill and Katherine. This helps keep the continuity in tact.

But back to my theory of the Abbott family revamp, I think once she sees the backlash for this exit she'll decide to give Jack more of a family. It's what the viewers want and Peter Bergman said he wanted it as well. I personally would like Jack, Ashley, Keemo (Jack's son), Traci and the return of either Mamie or Dina as the matriarch of the family. Probably Mamie because she would be used for the Winters as well which is very cost effective.

Eileen was great on Days as Kristin, let's hope she will return to Days it will spice up the show again.

I am sad that Eileen is leaving, but she HAS been rarely on these last few months and it seems as if there is no storyline for her. Although, I am surprised about that, since Latham has given almost everyone (if not everyone) a sl.

I am so disappointed that Eileen Davidson is going. She's a fine actress and has always been one of my favourite cast members.

However, I do feel that they turned Ashley into a total sap in the last few years, probably starting with the whole 'I wanna leave Brad for Victor...even though he's married to Nikki' thing. Also, Ashley with Paul was just SO wrong...and extremely uncomfortable to watch.

If they recast Ashley, I hope they bring back Brenda Epperson. To me, Eileen will always be Ashley, but Epperson was the only alternative that I actually had any time for.
