CNN has just broke news about a new regular cast member/housewife and family moving to Wisteria Lane in the season finale. Alfrie Woodard ("Beauty Shop") has been cast as the new housewife and will become a regular next season. This means that there will be an African-American family on the block now, but the studio is remaining mum about the specifics about Ms. Woodard's character and the character's family.

The new black family will definitely make things interesting...I cannot wait to see Alfre Woodard on this show...I have always liked her acting and bringing this family in will most likely attract african-american viewers...Great decision on the producer's part.... :exit:

Isnt this great news?! I'm a big Alfre fan and I think she will do a great job. Her character also sounds like another Wisteria Lane classic!
So what do you guys think? Interesting that we now have six housewives and one of them is black! :thanks:

Love, love, love Alfre Woodard and she's great with the dysfunctional family stuff - her performance as an unhappy housewife in What's Cooking? was wonderful.

despite the fact that i don't like the show, it's very 21st century in the fact that you have diverse characters, whites, gays, latinos and now black.
yes, Alfre is amazing. it's only strategic if they want to stay on top is to target to wide audience.
salut Romain, moi aussi je suis francais. ca va?

This is good news, I assume she is a well known actress in the states but with me it's like that: If it wasn't for Star Trek: The First Contact I wouldn't know who she is! That's the only time I ever saw her and she was great in that movie.
I guess this means the Youngs will be out then at the end of the season?
Too bad, I really liked Zach, he's so crazy! :D
i love abby

I hope her character is written as well as the rest are. Wouldn't be the first time a show has brought on a character played by a very well known and accomplished actor only to watch them linger in the background. Please don't waste her talent!!!

Abbylexis, on April 24th, they're airing a season overview so you might wanna look out for it. Then you could watch the rest of May sweeps. Or you could just wait for the DVD which will include some great extras.
I know of one where we'll see Edie getting it on with Shaft. Yes, Mr. Richard Roundtree! It was obviously cut for political reasons and I'm just dying to see it.

Mr. Shaw appeared for a couple episodes. I believe he was a hitman hired to kill Edie, but he may have been a good cop gone bad. I forget exactly.

I just watched Alfre Woodward in an episode of HOMICIDE LIFE ON THE STREET on DVD. What a compelling, fiercely intelligent actress she is. Ordinarily, I would say that she would be an excellent addition to any show, but I already find it frustrating enough to watch Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross, talented actresses clearly smarter than the roles they play, "dumbing down" to play such two dimensionally ditzy characters. I'm not sure, but in boxing, isn't this referred to as "punching below one's weight?" It just feels like such a waste.

James, are you still watching the show? Just asking because I actually think that Marcia gets to play a lot of great scenes. So far she seems to be the only houswife with some depth. And Marcia does an excellent job! I hope she'll get the Emmy, this will make up for the Golden Globe fiasco, lol.
Really, Felicity and Marcia are so much better than Hatcher, well in my humble opinion.

I've been watching episodes I've taped, so I'm a bit behind - even by UK standards. I'm up to the point where Marcia Cross is dating the pharmacist who accidentally shoots himself on the firing range. I think Marcia Cross is very good at what she does, but I think the situations are so stupid and unbelievable that there is little depth for her to find in them. For instance, the incident of her son running down the trophy wife's mother-in-law could have had very interesting consequences if we had seen how Marcia Cross's guilt affected her relationship with Eva Longoria's character, but we don't. None of the friendships between the central characters is explored or developed. Exactly what, for instance, does Marcia Cross's character have in common with Felicity Huffman's? How does that differ from her friendship with Eva Longoria? These four women are supposedly all equal best friends with another, but why? What do they each have in common aside from their names being in the opening credits? If only the characters' relationships with one another were as intriguing as the actresses' friendships (or otherwise) seem to be!
I agree that Huffman especially and Cross are better than Teri Hatcher. I find Hatcher's slapstick comedy scenes depressingly unfunny.

Yeah, this is what I don't like about the show. In one minute you see a depressed Bree, terrified about what her son did to Mama Solis (this is a nice example for a good Marcia Cross scene) but in the next minute she seems to have forgotten about it and has no guilt feelings at all.
It's a shallow show, that's for sure.
But the show is funny and entertaining at the same time.
I don't know, I see one episode that I hate and then I see an episode that I can enjoy a lot and then I see an episode that I hate....
It's weird!
