What was your favourite PRISONER end-of-year cliffhanger?

Details below:

1979 season, episode 82: Armed terrorists break into Wentworth whilst the officers are unconscious thanks to drugged coffee to spring their leader Janet Dominguez. During the escape bid, Governor Erica Davidson is shot.

1980 season, episode 165: The women stage a mass breakout through an underground storm drain using a performance of Cinderella as a diversion. The tunnel collapses, while the entrance is buried under rocks by emotionally disturbed prisoner Anne Griffin.

1981 season, episode 246: The women organise a full scale riot to protest about oppressive security measures in the prison, and rampage through the corridors, armed with home-made weapons.

1982 season, episode 326: Bea's scheme to get rid of the Freak backfires when a diversionary fire gets out of hand and escalates into an inferno blazing through the prison. As Bea and the Freak fight it out in the isolation wing, the fire burns through the riot alarm circuits, locking the security gates and leaving them - and other inmates - trapped inside the prison.

1983 season, episode 416: Lizzie finds herself in deadly danger as she realises the truth about murderous officer David Bridges.

1984 season, episode 505: As Governor Ann Reynolds and officer Meg Morris recover from being involved in a bomb blast, male inmates arrive at Wentworth while Myra Desmond and Reb Kean battle for the position of top dog amongst the prisoners.

1985 season, episode 588: The officers and women are baffled by a sudden escape, vicious Lou Kelly has taken over as top dog and officer Joyce Barry hovers between life and death in hospital after being violently assaulted, whilst solicitor David Adams takes drastic action when he realises the truth about his client Eve Wilder.

I voted for the 1982 cliffhanger the fire. A great episode even though i was never a big prisoner fan.

It's a hard choice...

The panto/escape was utterly brilliant. Absurd, yet conversely thrilling and it sums up the tone of the show in a nutshell.

The fire was also magnificent, with so many storylines being woven into the cliffhanger - the ongoing hatred between Bea and the Freak, Bea's hopes for parole, Ferguson's secret diaries, Barbara Fields' blackmail attempts, Paddy's claustrophobia and the turpentine being illegally left in the storeroom. The production values were remarkably good too.

I have never seen any of these. The show left our american airwaves even before the 1st cliffhanger. (In my area anyway). :sosad:

Without doubt it has to be the 1982 cliffhanger and the life and death struggle between Bea and The Freak as flames engulf the prison. For my money this was the best prisoner episode of all time!

The tunnel/great escape was also great fun. An utterly ludicrous storyline, but totally suspenseful. The kind of thing only PRISONER could ever get away with.
