I loved both Abby and Alexis. I always believed that Knots Landing would not have become a hit without Abby, like dynasty without Alexis. What I admire in Abby is the fact that she started out as a single unemployed mother and turned out to be a powerful wealthy woman through her manipulations. What I love about Alexis is the fact that she would always get what she wanted no matter what the cost is except BLAKE, but that did not stop her from trying to get blake . Do any of you have a preference over the two women?
Alexis was a forceful, ferocious personality let down by her obsession with Blake. Abby, IMO, was less emotionally needy and infinitely more intelligent. I love them both, but Abby was the better drawn, better acted character.
Donna Mills was an invaluable creative force behind the scenes on KNOTS LANDING, always prepared to fight her corner for what she believed was right for Abby and the show overall. I don't recall any instance where Joan Collins had any creative input into Alexis or DYNASTY - although I have read that she didn't want to do the "Alexis causes Krystle to miscarry" scene. Joan took the money, basically. Nothing wrong with that, but I do think that Donna and the other actors on KNOTS LANDING were prepared to go the extra mile to make their show the best it could be. And indeed it was.

I liked donna mills cos although she was very petite - she was very strong.
She was definitely a vixien, a she devil. The show would have suffered immensley without her

Abby was the more realistic of the two (then again, KL was the more realistic soap), which in my opinion made her more dangerous than Alexis. Alexis seemed more like a cartoon villian. I mean, Alexis could be coming at me, and I could yell "Look! It's Blake!" and while she's distracted, make a run for it.
Also, Abby knew when to pick up and move on. Did Alexis? NO.

its actually interesting imagining what would happen if abby came face to face with alexis -
cos even though they are both ruthless superbitches - they are very different people and complete polar opposites in appearance - whereas alexis is the dark, alley cat bitch, abby is the blonde, sophisticated scheming minx.

I think overall the actors had little say about their characters on "Dynasty" as there seemed to be not much of a cooperative spirit on the part of the rigid, control-freak (and largely incompetent) producers, unlike "Knots" where actor input abounded, and it showed--- on both shows.
If anybody could have been listened-to at any point on "Dynasty" about their character, it would have been Collins, but she would have been likely fussing about ego-based issues like Alexis-wont-do-this/Alexis-wont-do-that/Alexis'-phonebook-has-to-bound-in-designer-leather!, whether these things were legitimate to her character or not.
Which, obviously, wouldn't have helped much.

"An English person would never say this line." Oh, shut up, Joan.

RADA taught her that.

Joan Collins was often THE reason to watch Dynasty, and the show never did have to go on without her. However, there WAS an Abby-less Knots Landing and while it was good sometimes, it stunk most of the time. As much as I loved Joan Collins as Alexis, Abby was the better actress/character. Alexis depended on her rivalry with Krystle, she's kind of listless after Linda Evans leaves the show. KL had the Val/Abby, Karen/Abby and Paige/Abby rivalries, which were fun, but never succeded to consume the show. Abby was better on her own, which shows her strength as a character.

Angela Channning is much, much, much, better,
Angela Channning is much, much, much, better,
I don't know if Angela really qualifies as a "bitch". A soap bitch is usually an attractive woman who uses her womanly wiles to get ahead. Angela didn't really do that. Not so much a bitch, more of a scheming old bag.

I love Alexis, but she would not stand a chance against The Queen. Alexis could have all the money in the world, but Abby was much smarter and more sophisticated when taking down her enemies. Alexis was a bit ghetto...those cat fights!!!...Abby was way to classy for all that. She would never lose control and hit someone, she just used her brains!

Abby is the best bitch, it has its own way a little more realistic on screen, with more emotion and that kind of people you would in real life to be taken. Alexis is the type who must have in order to drive its position on them to others, as they also like to hurt others.
I actually always wondered whether Alexis might not exaggerated version of Abby, as Abby was ahead of Alexis.
So Abby is my absolute favorite bitch on prime-time soap.
